5 Factors Affecting Wire Cutting Accuracy (and How to Fix Them)

Technical Insight · 2026

Cutting accuracy is the core metric of a wire cutting machine. Surui machines achieve ±0.03 mm, but real-world results can be affected by the following factors.

1. Blade Wear

Symptom: burrs on the cut surface, slanted cuts, length variation.

Cause: the blade edge dulls after a certain number of cuts.

Solution:

  • Inspect the edge regularly (every 50,000–100,000 cuts)
  • Replace or regrind the blade in time
  • Use tungsten steel blades (Surui standard) for 3-5× better wear resistance

2. Feeding Accuracy

Symptom: inconsistent cut lengths.

Cause: feed roller slipping, roller wear, incorrect servo parameters.

Solution:

  • Clean feed rollers (remove chips and oil)
  • Adjust roller pressure
  • Calibrate servo feeding parameters
  • Servo feeding (standard on Surui S-02/SR12) is more accurate than mechanical feeding

3. Straightening Quality

Symptom: bent wire causes inaccurate length measurement.

Cause: worn straightening rollers, mismatched parameters, severely bent wire.

Solution:

  • Replace worn straightening rollers
  • Re-adjust straightening parameters for the wire diameter
  • Use multi-roller precision straightening (SR12 has 15 stages)

4. Material Characteristics

Symptom: different batches cut differently.

Cause: differences in hardness, diameter tolerance, surface condition.

Solution:

  • Require tight diameter tolerance from suppliers (e.g. ±0.02mm)
  • Test-cut and fine-tune after changing material
  • Reduce cutting speed for harder materials

5. Installation & Rigidity

Symptom: unstable accuracy, excessive vibration.

Cause: uneven floor, loose anchor bolts, insufficient frame rigidity.

Solution:

  • Install on flat, solid ground (levelness < 0.1mm/m)
  • Check anchor bolts regularly
  • Choose a heavy-duty frame (D Series has higher rigidity)
