The same machine can run like new for 5 years, or fail frequently in 2 years. The difference is daily maintenance.
1. Daily Check (3 minutes before start)
- Check blade wear and chipping
- Check feed rollers for entangled debris
- Check lubricant level
- Run idle and listen (stop immediately if abnormal noise)
2. Blade Maintenance (Most Critical)
Blades are the main wear part:
- Inspect the edge after 50,000–100,000 cuts
- Replace or regrind when burrs appear or cut surface is uneven
- Mind the blade clearance when replacing (too large = burrs, too small = faster wear)
3. Feeding Mechanism
- Clean feed rollers every shift (remove metal chips)
- Check roller pressure weekly (too loose = slipping, too tight = wire damage)
- Lubricate chains/timing belts regularly
4. Straightening Mechanism
- Clean straightening rollers regularly
- Check for roller wear (affects straightness)
- Re-adjust straightening parameters after changing wire diameter
5. Electrical System
- Check terminal tightness monthly
- Ensure proper servo motor cooling
- Keep control panel clean and dry
- Avoid frequent emergency stops (affects servo life)
6. Lubrication Schedule
| Part | Interval | Lubricant |
|---|---|---|
| Transmission gears | Weekly | Lithium grease |
| Guide rails | Daily | Guide oil |
| Bearings | Monthly | High-speed bearing grease |
| Chains | Weekly | Chain oil |
7. Long-Term Storage
If the machine is idle for more than 1 month:
- Clean thoroughly, especially blades and feed rollers
- Apply anti-rust oil
- Power off and cover with dust cover
- Run idle for 10 minutes before resuming
