Safety Operation Rules and Protection for Wire Cutting Machines

Safety Guide · 2026

Cutting machines are high-speed mechanical equipment. Proper operation and protection are prerequisites for safety. Here are the key points.

1. Operator Requirements

  • Work only after passing training (Surui provides operation training)
  • Know the location and use of the emergency stop button
  • Understand hazard zones (blade, feed rollers, transmission)
  • No loose clothing, no gloves (prevents entanglement)
  • Long hair must be tied up or covered
  • Never operate after drinking or when fatigued

2. Pre-Start Checks (Daily)

ItemStandardIf Abnormal
E-stop buttonPops up / presses normallyRepair immediately
GuardsInstalled, undamagedInstall before starting
BladesNo chipping, tightReplace blade
Feed rollersNo debris, correct gapClean and adjust
Lubricant levelWithin rangeTop up
Electrical wiringNo damage or exposureRepair immediately
GroundingReliableGround before starting

3. Safety During Operation

  • Never use hands on moving wire, feed rollers or blades
  • Never adjust blades or clear scrap while running
  • Abnormal noise / smell / vibration → press E-stop immediately
  • Stop the machine before changing material (or use a safe auto-loader)
  • The operator must not leave the machine while running
  • Clear scrap promptly (build-up affects operation)

4. Built-in Protection (Surui Standard)

DeviceFunction
Emergency stopCuts power instantly
Blade guardIsolates the blade zone from hands
Feed roller guardPrevents finger entanglement
Door interlockMachine stops when door opens
Overload protectionStops on excessive load
Earth leakage protectionCuts power on electrical fault
GroundingPrevents electric shock

5. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

ItemRequirementNote
Safety glassesRequiredAgainst flying chips
Work clothesRequired (fitted)Prevents entanglement
Safety shoesRecommendedImpact protection
EarplugsRecommendedProlonged noise exposure
GlovesProhibitedEntanglement risk (cut-resistant gloves only when stopped, for blade changes)

6. Maintenance Safety

  1. Lockout/tagout: cut power and hang a "Do Not Energize" tag
  2. Wait for full stop: 1 minute after power-off (capacitor discharge)
  3. Depressurize: pneumatic systems must be relieved
  4. Two-person rule: one maintains, one watches
  5. Use proper tools: never substitute hands
  6. Post-maintenance check: confirm tools removed and guards refitted before start

7. Handling Abnormal Situations

SituationCorrect ActionProhibited
Wire jamE-stop → power off → remove with tool❌ Pull by hand while running
Chipped bladeStop → power off → replace❌ Inspect while running
Abnormal noiseE-stop → investigate❌ Keep running to observe
Leakage / smokePower off → evacuate → repair❌ Touch by hand
InjuryE-stop → first aid → hospital → report❌ Deal with machine first

8. Safety Management Recommendations

  • Certified operation: operators certified after training and assessment
  • Daily checklist: tick each item before start-up
  • Regular training: quarterly safety training
  • Emergency drills: every six months
  • Incident records: log and analyze every abnormality
  • Equipment ledger: record maintenance and repair history

9. Applicable Standards

  • GB 5226.1 Electrical safety of machines — general technical conditions
  • GB/T 15706 Safety of machinery — general principles for design
  • GB 23821 Safety of machinery — safety distances to prevent hazard zones being reached

Surui machines are designed and manufactured with reference to these national standards. CE support available for export machines.

⚠️ Safety Reminder

In all cases, personal safety takes priority over production. Stop immediately when anything seems wrong — never think "just a little longer".
